Never before seen in Rennes: the historic record for grayness was broken in November

For the vitamin D cure, you will have to iron. Masked by thick fog and low clouds, the sun has been particularly shy in recent weeks in the Breton capital.

Cumulatively, the – Saint-Jacques weather station recorded only 44.5 hours of sunshine over the entire month of November 2024 – the lowest total ever observed over the month of November since measurements began.

According to Météo Bretagne, this is equivalent to two hours of sunshine less than the previous record which dated from 1992. And it is almost half less than the average monthly standard which is 83.5 hours.

Record series

It must be said that the month of November started very badly since the people of Rennes had to wait until Monday, November 11 to see the very first rays of sunshine. Which ended a record series of 11 days without sunshine.

“The first decade of the month was marked by an anticyclonic sequence resulting in persistent gray weather,” recalls Météo Bretagne on its site. “The sunshine remained very weak afterwards, preventing us from catching up on the accumulated delay.”
