The car manufacturer announced on Sunday, December 1, the resignation “with immediate effect” of its emblematic boss. “The company's board of directors, meeting today under the chairmanship of John Elkann, accepted the resignation of Carlos Tavares,” the group said in a press release.
His replacement will be appointed during the first half of 2025. According to Henri de Castries, administrator of the Franco-Italian-American group, this departure is the result of “different points of view” between Tavares and the board of directorsn. The manager's mandate at the head of Stellantis was due to end in early 2026.
At the end of September, the group indicated that it had launched a process to find its future general director. Carlos Tavares has been talked about a lot in recent years. The boss's remuneration sparked controversy in France.
The process of appointing the group's new CEO, managed by a special committee of the board of directors, is already “well underway”, warned Stellantis.
