A bus accident in the Pyrénées-Orientales on Sunday, December 1, left at least two dead and five seriously injured. The bus reportedly hit a cliff.
A very serious bus accident occurred on Sunday, December 1, in the mountains in the Pyrénées-Orientales. At least two people have died and five seriously injured have been reported, according to the Pyrénées-Orientales prefecture, reports The Parisian. “The results are subject to change”added the prefecture. The accident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m., on national road 320 in the town of Porté-Puymorens towards the Col du Puymorens. Around forty passengers were on board the bus.
The bus would have left the road and hit the cliff head-on according to information from The Independent. It was a Spanish bus and the passengers on board could be Colombian travelers.
Significant resources deployed
Very large resources were dispatched to the site by the department's Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis). Around a hundred firefighters intervened, supported by their colleagues from Aude, Ariège and Andorra. Civil security helicopters from Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude and Hérault are mobilized. The gendarmerie is also massively present with 18 soldiers from Prades, 5 bikers, 3 reinforcements from the high mountain gendarmerie platoon and 2 personnel from the criminal identification cell. Two helicopters from Haute-Garonne and Ariège were also sent to the scene of the tragedy.
