Bayern Munich remains unbeaten in the German Bundesliga. With a late goal, Jamal Musiala saved FCB from a 1-1 (0-1) draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. RB Leipzig is slipping deeper and deeper into the crisis. The Saxons lost 1:5 against VfL Wolfsburg, coached by Styrian Ralph Hasenhüttl, and the pressure on coach Marco Rose is increasing after the fifth competitive defeat in the last six games.
Bayern lead the table seven points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt and champions Bayer Leverkusen, but the Frankfurters are still challenged in Heidenheim on Sunday. Leipzig is now fourth, Leverkusen moved past 1. FC Union Berlin with a 2-1 win. After a 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, SC Freiburg is now level on points behind BVB in sixth place.
Bayern striker Kane injured
Musiala gave coach Vincent Kompany’s Bayern a point with a well-placed header in the 85th minute. Jamie Gittens (27th) gave the hosts the lead in a balanced game in front of 81,365 spectators. However, Bayern had to cope with a personnel setback: striker Harry Kane had to be replaced injured in the 33rd minute. After the game the all-clear was given and the 31-year-old was unlikely to have suffered any serious injuries. “He noticed that there was something in his thigh, but he also said it wasn’t bad,” reported sports director Max Eberl.
More precise statements could only be made on Sunday or Monday. ÖFB legionnaire Konrad Laimer started at right-back for Bayern and left the field in the 62nd minute, while Marcel Sabitzer was substituted on the other side shortly before the end. The BVB midfielder could have increased the score to 2-0, but his good opportunity failed due to Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (62′).
Leipzig were caught cold by Wolfsburg – after goals from Mohamed Amoura (4th, 16th) and Tiago Tomas (5th), they were 3-0 behind after just a quarter of an hour. Joakim Mähle added in the 64th minute, and Kevin Behrens scored the final point (91st). Patrick Wimmer played for the guests until the 76th minute, while Christoph Baumgartner was substituted on the other side in the 77th minute. At this point, Xaver Schlager made his comeback seven months after tearing his cruciate ligament. Nicolas Seiwald played from the 30th minute and initiated Willi Orban’s consolation goal (82nd) with a free kick cross.
Gregoritsch assists in Freiburg victory
His ÖFB teammate Michael Gregoritsch shone in Freiburg’s success over Mönchengladbach. The Styrian provided the assists for Lucas Höler’s goals (41′, 63′) and was also involved in Ritsu Doan’s 2-0 win (49′). Jeremie Frimpong (2nd) and Patrik Schick (71st) scored for Leverkusen at Union. Leopold Querfeld played for the Berliners until the 85th minute and Christopher Trimmel until the 79th minute, while Stefan Lainer (62nd) and Kevin Stöger (78th) came on as substitutes for the “Fohlen”.
In the 2-2 draw between Werder Bremen and Stuttgart, the hosts substituted Romano Schmid for Marco Grüll in the 90th minute, while Marco Friedl played until the 83rd minute.
