The image of Stijn Stijnen is far removed from that of the ideal son-in-law. This has become apparent once again in recent weeks and months.
Stijn Stijnen does not have a good reputation and he emphasized this once again with his idiosyncratic approach to the cup match against first division club Sporting Charleroi.
Club Brugge will play in the Croky Cup on Tuesday, and we can already see what welcome the ex-Blue Black goalkeeper has in store.
Stijnen is already clear which players he prefers to work with. “A player with somewhat of a winning mentality does not want the competitor for his position to play a good match,” said Het Laatste Nieuws.
“He wants that player to make a mistake so that he can play himself the following week. One large group of friends is an illusion. That’s populist talk from cliché trainers. I want a dressing room that can deliver a result, period.”
Heating on Patro
This week, Stijnen also provoked with his open letter to Rik De Mil, with an expert’s investigation into the heating in the dressing room during the cup match.
“If I were the boss of Charleroi, and my team was beaten 4-1 by a 1B team, and I heard my trainer complaining about peripheral matters, I would immediately stop the collaboration without many words,” challenges Stijnen.
The match delegate did state in his report that Stijnen admitted that warming up the dressing room was part of his tactics. “I have no illusions that a federal public prosecutor will question the integrity of a match delegate, they have no other choice.”
“But from now on, the same match delegate will have to live with the thought that a legend like Luc Nilis, who stood next to me when I made my statement and therefore heard exactly what I said, will now know what type he is…”
