The Béarnais of the Pau Section won 29-15 in their Hamlet against the convalescent Lyonnais. Le Lou lost their leaders Couilloud, Guillard and Berdeu during the match, all of whom were injured. After a series of four defeats in a row, Sébastien Piqueronies' protégés are smiling again.
We could talk about a fear match! Because at 4:30 p.m., at the kick-off of this match, Pau, 13th, hosted Lyon 12th. The issue? Ending the series of 4 defeats in a row that each team was experiencing. In these conditions, a closed match could be predicted but in the end, the show was of good quality on the Hameau lawn.
Pau masters his subject
Section fans were scared from the start with a penalty passed in the 2nd minute of play by Berdeu. “Another complicated match ahead” many Béarnais must have said to themselves. But the Pau reaction did not take long! Always precise and precious, Joe Simmonds found his way to the poles in the 9th minute of play to equalize. Three points which validated the good impression made by the Vert et Blanc against a territorially dominated Lyon team.
Reduced to 14 after the yellow card addressed to Radradra, the Rhone residents finally cracked against the Pau pressing. Through a series of pick and gos, the Pyrenees sent Maximin into the zone of truth (10-3, 23rd). A few minutes later, the opposite scenario emerged. Zegueur released on a yellow card, Lyon immediately took advantage of the opportunity to score a superb try through Niniashvili (10-8, 29th). It was nevertheless the only Lyon clearing of this first half which was concluded by another precise kick from Simmonds (13-8).
