Barcelona dropped points for the first time at home in La Liga this season as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Las Palmas.
It was a poor showing from the Catalans, who failed to impose their dominance on the proceedings and looked quite clumsy throughout the ninety minutes.
However, the result could have gone Barcelona’s way very easily if it hadn’t been for yet another mishap from the referees, reports SPORT.
Foul on Cubarsi, unnoticed
In the 88th minute of the game, with Barcelona desperately chasing an equaliser, Pau Cubarsi was fouled inside the Las Palmas area by Mika Marmol.
Marmol stomped Cubarsi’s heel, an incident that went unnoticed even though the Barcelona defender was bleeding afterwards.
Field referee Cordero Vega as well as VAR referee, Busquets Ferrar, did not consider the incident foul enough to even stop the game.
Cubarsi himself complained even as his ankle was covered with blood. But the game continued as if nothing had happened.
Not the only incident
Foul on Cubarsi was not the only time referees opted to ignore this afternoon. Earlier in the game, in the 55th minute, Raphinha received an elbow from a Las Palmas player.
The elbow could have easily left Las Palmas with ten men. However, neither of the referees deemed it serious enough to review the incident – once again Barcelona’s cries were unheard.
The decisions from the referee cost the Catalans dearly on the day, and could be telling as far as the title race is concerned.
