The Mechelen singer Bert De Coninck has died at the age of 75. VRT reports this. The artist, who was best known for his performances in the 70s and 80s, left a lasting impression on the Dutch rock and Belpop scene. He had his biggest hit with the song ‘Evelyne’. In addition to being a singer, De Coninck was also a poet.

De Coninck was born in Mechelen in 1949. He started his career in the music world as a member of several bands and later became a beloved solo artist. His warm voice and talent for performing sensitive, Dutch songs made him loved by many fans. His best-known hits included To the sea, Love of my life in Evelyne.

During his career, De Coninck released numerous albums and performed throughout Flanders. He was known for his energetic performances and his ability to engage the audience with his music.

In the 1990s, De Coninck leaves Belgium. From then on he will stay in Portugal. Every now and then he went to Belgium and attended a festival, such as the Brussels city festival Boterhammen in het Park in 2001. Until shortly before the end of his life, De Coninck continued to make music. He played in various bands until a few years ago and also continued to write songs.

De Coninck died in the Portuguese town of Lagos, in the southern Algarve region.
