FC Barcelona are set to take on Las Palmas in La Liga later today in what will be an important game for Hansi Flick’s men. Despite the win against Brest in the Champions League, they have dropped points in their last two league games.
As the team prepares to face Las Palmas, they will have to do so without Marc Casado. The in-form, talented La Masia star was red carded in the game against Celta Vigo and Hansi Flick’s men will miss his presence on the pitch.
Casado has been ever-present for Barcelona this season. He has emerged as the engine room for Hansi Flick’s team so far this season. There is no doubt that the Catalan club will miss him immensely when they take on Las Palmas.
With no other natural pivot in the squad, Flick will have to reinvent and come up with a solution on the night. The obvious option would be bringing Frenkie de Jong into the XI but the Dutchman hasn’t been at a great level, recently.
Barcelona fans, it might be time to dream. Every fan’s wish to see the duo play together on the pitch came true against Celta Vigo last weekend, and as predicted by Sports Worldperhaps it’s time for them to line up as a double pivot against Las Palmas.
The obvious positive is seeing two of Barcelona’s most technical players play together. One is a playmaker and the other is a natural ball-winner, increasing the chances of these two succeeding together as a pair at the base of midfield.
However, the concern among these two is that neither is positional and cannot play with the same kind of discipline that Marc Casado does. This could leave a gaping hole in midfield, which could be exploited on the counter.
As they say, it is never easy to judge the potential of the duo unless they actually play together. Let’s wait and see if Flick decides to line-up with the Barcelona Golden Boy duo against Las Palmas and only time will tell how it pans out.
