Telethon: the night of Alès lights up to publicize the fight against genetic diseases

This Friday, November 29, at the very beginning of the evening, a torchlight march was organized in the city center.

This is one of the main Alesian events of the Telethon: the torchlight march organized in the heart of the town. It is 5:15 p.m. this Friday, November 29, when the Municipal Sports Office (OMS), the project manager, sets up in front of the town hall. “Last year, there were 300 people; that represents around 300 torches”remembers President René Reboul. On a pillar of the stand where torches and light sticks are sold for €3 to benefit the fight against genetic diseases, the route map is posted: it is a loop starting from the town hall, passing through the rue Taisson , Beauteville and Docteur-Serres, then via Boulevard Louis-Blanc and Rue Albert-Ier.

It is 5:30 p.m. when the first torches are distributed. The minutes pass and a few souvenir photos are taken while, in his corner, the Ajaio batucada is getting ready. It is up to her to set the rhythm of the stroll… and she gets to it at 6:30 p.m.

Sports associations in working order

The procession sets off to the sound of percussion. Behind the musicians, the children of the Cévennes Club (RCC) parade, followed by Mayor Max Roustan and part of his municipal council. In their wake, members of other WHO sports associations advance, holding their identification panels or a banner. The night lights up to publicize the Telethon fight. Passers-by don't miss a thing.

On the WHO stand, calm has returned. How many torches were sold? We will have to wait; they don't have “not yet counted”. That said, there were still many participants in the procession…
