A survey by the CSA institute for CNEWS, Europe 1 and JDD, published this Friday, November 29, reveals that 62% of French people want Emmanuel Macron to resign if Michel Barnier's government were to be censored soon.
While rumors of censorship from Michel Barnier's government are becoming more and more insistent, a survey by the CSA institute for CNEWS, Europe 1 and the JDD, published this Friday, November 29, indicates that 62% of French people want Emmanuel Macron would resign if the executive were to be ousted by parliamentarians.
In detail, 59% of men and 64% of women answered “yes” to the question “would you like Emmanuel Macron to resign in the event of censorship by the Barnier government?”
Young people are the most eager to see the head of state leave office in the event of censorship from his Prime Minister. Indeed, 65% of those under 35 want Emmanuel Macron to resign in this scenario, with an increase to 67% for 25-34 year olds. The oldest, although slightly in the majority, are more measured. Thus 54% of those aged 65 and over responded positively to the CSA institute's question.
If we look at the socio-professional categories of the people surveyed, 65% of the CSP- want Emmanuel Macron to resign, i.e. 7 points more than the CSP+ (58%) and 3 more than the inactive (62%).
LFI on mission for the resignation of Emmanuel Macron
Regarding the political proximities of the French people interviewed, the wish to see Emmanuel Macron resign in the event of censorship by Michel Barnier is very present among LFI supporters (91%). A score significantly higher on the left compared to respondents close to the ideas of the Ecologists (58%) and those of the Socialist Party (55%).
As for supporters of the National Rally, 87% of them want Emmanuel Macron to leave the Élysée, compared to 52% of Republicans.
Finally, on the contrary, among those close to the presidential camp, only 18% of those surveyed would like Emmanuel Macron to resign.
While Parliament is currently examining the Budget for the year 2025, Michel Barnier could have to use article 49.3 this Monday to pass, without a vote, the Social Security financing bill. The Prime Minister could thus be censored by the deputies if the motion were to be supported by the elected representatives of the New Popular Front and the National Rally.
Beyond censorship, the resignation of Emmanuel Macron is increasingly mentioned by political figures from all sides. Insoumise France is also on the front line to demand the departure of the head of state.
Indeed, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's movement has multiplied declarations and measures, going so far as to file impeachment proceedings in September. Studied in the National Assembly, it was however rejected by parliamentarians.
The rebellious executives have recently made a series of declarations along these lines. Guest of France 2 this Thursday, the rebellious MP and vice-president of the National Assembly Clémence Guetté considered that the resignation of Emmanuel Macron was “the only way to end the political crisis”.
*Survey carried out on November 28 and 29 by self-administered online questionnaire on a nationally representative sample of 1,010 people aged over 18, using the quota method.
