Ange Postecoglou must axe Brennan Johnson against Fulham on Sunday despite the forward scoring for Tottenham against Roma.

After their 4-0 Premier League win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium [23 November]Spurs’ confidence would have been high ahead of their UEFA Europa League clash with Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday [28 November].

However, the best that Postecoglou’s side could manage was a 2-2 draw, with Mats Hummels scoring a stoppage-time equaliser for the visitors.

And in truth, a draw was perhaps more than the North London outfit deserved after their poor second-half display against Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Therefore, Postecoglou needs to make changes for the Premier League clash with Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [1 December]and one of the players who must make way is Johnson, despite the Welshman scoring against Roma.

While Johnson did get on the scoresheet against Roma on Thursday, his overall display was pretty poor.

As per Sofascore, the 23-year-old missed one big chance and managed just 25 touches of the ball overall. In addition, he failed to attempt a single dribble while zero per cent of his crosses into the box were accurate.

He also completed just 67 per cent of his passes, with none of those key, while giving the ball away seven times. Although he won 100 per cent of his duels and made one tackle, the former Nottingham Forest man just didn’t offer enough overall.

Against City, James Maddison, who was perhaps mistakenly left out against Roma, started and scored twice, while also succeeding with 100 per cent of his dribbles and completing 89 per cent of his passes.

With Maddison in midfield, Dejan Kulusevski, who let Postecoglou down with a “ridiculous” moment against Roma, started on the right, where Johnson was playing on Thursday.

That formula worked well, with Spurs thrashing Pep Guardiola’s side.

Johnson did manage a goal from the bench at the Etihad, and that is where he should once again start on Sunday when Fulham travel to North London.
