For the first time since last Saturday, the frosts returned to the plains this morning. In the wake of the snowy episode that occurred last week, temperatures rose, sometimes spectacularly, as in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) where it was no less than 20°C between Sunday and Monday. They then gradually declined in recent days.
This Friday morning, the entire north-eastern quarter of the country is affected by negative temperatures. This map of temperature readings provided by Météociel clearly shows how, a little after 8 a.m. at daybreak, the regions going from Hauts-de-France to the south of Île-de-France to the German border in the Grand Est are concerned.
The thermometer thus fell to -5°C in Colmar (Haut-Rhin). In Haute-Saône, in Luxeuil, it was -4°C. In Épinal, in the Vosges, it was -3.8°C. The temperature also remained below -3°C in Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) with -3.5°C.
Nevers (Nièvre), Reims (Marne) and Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) experienced an almost identical low point, oscillating between -2.6°C and -2.7°C. It froze, but with a temperature one degree higher, in Beauvais (Oise) and Troyes (Aube) where it was between -2.4°C and -2.5°C. In Île-de-France, only the Val-d'Oise department was affected with -1.7°C in Pontoise.
The rest of the bulk of jellies are between 0 and -1. In Metz (Moselle), it was -1°C. In Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), it was -0.9°C. Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes) experienced a similar level with -0.8°C. Finally in Lille (North), the thermometer dropped to -0.3°C.
30°C difference between Haut-Rhin and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques
These frosts are completely normal at this time of year. In the areas concerned, the first of the season occurs on average at the end of October.
In any case, they will clearly contrast with certain values expected in the southwest of the country this Friday afternoon. It will often be around twenty degrees at the hottest time in the Landes, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Hautes-Pyrénées.
A June day in Tarbes
In Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées), it could be up to 23°C in the afternoon. In a town like Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Météo France is banking on a temperature of 24°C in the middle of the afternoon. Such a level is only one degree below the heat threshold. It would also be almost 30°C warmer than this morning in Haut-Rhin.
In November, on average, the average maximum temperature is 14°C in Pau, or ten degrees lower. The level expected in the afternoon finally corresponds to that of an early summer day in June.
