An incident took place Thursday evening in the hemicycle of the National Assembly, during a session suspension.

According to parliamentary sources, Modem MP Nicolas Turquois came close to coming to blows with his socialist colleague Michael Bouloux, on the sidelines of the debate on pension reform.

An incident in the middle of the National Assembly. The bailiffs of the lower house had to intervene, Thursday, November 28 in the evening, between several elected officials, following an incident caused in the hemicycle by the MoDem deputy Nicolas Turquois, on the sidelines of the debate on the repeal of pension reform (new window). According to parliamentary sources, Nicolas Turquois climbed into the aisles during a session suspension, appearing threatening towards a socialist deputy, Michael Bouloux.

“If the bailiffs had not intervened…”

“My family has been threatened! And these are people from your village!”would have thrown first to second, reports Le Figaro (new window). According to a source at MoDem, Nicolas Turquois complained to his colleague about “threats, insults and phone calls” received because of his opposition to the repeal of the pension reform. The president of the MoDem group, Marc Fesneau, finally intervened, as well as bailiffs, before the centrist deputy ended up leaving the chamber.

LFI deputy Antoine Léaument also indicated that he had been threatened by Nicolas Turquois, when he asked him to leave. “I told him 'because of your pension reform, people can lose two years of working life'explains the rebellious elected official at the LCI microphone (see video at the top of this article). “He completely lost his temper and came back in my direction. If the bailiffs and a deputy from his group had not intervened, I think he would have been violent.”

When the debates resumed, the session president Xavier Breton (LR) announced that he would propose to the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, to discuss the incident at the next meeting of the office of the Assembly, with a view to a sanction.

The incident took place at the end of a tense day, during which the deputies of the government coalition slowed down debates on a proposed LFI law aimed at repealing the 2023 pension reform, in order to avoid arrive at a lost vote for them.
