Ghent players whistled after a “frustrating evening” in Europe: “I would be lying if I said this wasn’t hard”
A week they will quickly want to forget in Ghent. After the defeat in Anderlecht, an inglorious defeat in Switzerland followed. The fans had little sympathy for the poor reaction and whistled at the players. “We have done everything we can,” said Delorge.
Taking revenge for the heavy 6-0 defeat in Anderlecht: that was the goal of KAA Gent today in the Conference League.
But after just 6 minutes the Buffaloes were behind again, but there was never a full-fledged response. The dissatisfaction among the fans was therefore great. A protest and a flute concert for the players followed.
“Fine is something else,” Mathias Delorge was clear about those whistle signals. “It’s a shame. Also for the fans, of course, because they make that journey. But no, it’s never nice to be whistled at by your own fans.”
“As players, we did everything we could. We entered the field with a feeling of revenge. The ball just didn’t want to go in today.”
“I can’t remember many chances from Lugano, but they did make full use of their counters. And I think there would have been a turning point if Gandelman’s ball went in. Then I believe we would have gone over it. It was just that. in return for.”
Fortunately, we will soon have another match to turn the tide.
Mathias Delorge
Now it is mainly important to quickly turn the switch. “We have to try to keep the positive atmosphere going,” Delorge also knew.
“Fortunately, we will soon have another match to turn the tide. We have to focus on that.”
And nothing dramatic has happened for the Buffaloes yet on the European stage either. “It is of course a shame that we lose here, but everything can still be played. It is not like in a preliminary round, where you have to win. Now there are only 2 matches left.”
No wings
Teammate Matisse Samoise was also very disappointed after the second tap in a row. “It’s just coming in at the moment,” he sounded upset.
“It wasn’t our day today. I can’t immediately explain why that is. However, we had the feeling that they had been caught.”
“The reaction of our fans and the current situation? I would be lying if I said it wasn’t hard,” he continued. “There will be another match on Sunday, but tonight it will still be difficult.”
After Anderlecht I mainly felt frustration, now it is disappointment.
Wouter Vrancken
Coach Wouter Vrancken confirmed afterwards that the new defeat hit the dressing room hard. “This is very frustrating for our boys,” the coach began his story.
“After the defeat of the first goal, we took control of the game. In the second half we had complete dominance, then it is a shame that you lose. If we had taken one of our moments, we would certainly have had wings to go over it .”
But unfortunately those wings did not materialize. “And so the boys are now very disappointed, right? After Anderlecht I mainly felt frustration, now it is disappointment. It is important to get rid of this as quickly as possible.”
