Full match player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois—7.5: Some huge saves to keep Madrid in contention, rarely ever to blame after a loss.

Fede Valverde—6: Did the job at right back but crossing was poor and failed to add additional quality in the final third.

Raul Asencio—7: Once again showed his character and personality — not frengthens of the stage or the moment. Battled hard with Darwin Nunez and made an early goal-line clearance to start the game.

Antonio Rudiger—6 Six clearances and one blocked shot — the defense was not to blame on the night though they failed to break from their deep block.

Ferland Mendy—5.5: Defensively was foot perfect vs Salah but it only takes world-class players one moment and the Egyptian baited Mendy into a tackle inside the box. Ancelotti substituted the player immediately after.

Edward Camavinga—8: Devastating news as it looks like the Frenchman is out with another injury. Was one of Madrid’s best players on the night. Broke lines with his dribbling and showed a wide range of passing. Won nearly all his 50/50 ground duels, completed 2/2 dribbles and 2/2 long balls.

Luka Modric—6: Some crucial interceptions in the first half but his influence and energy waned in the second half.

Bellingham—6: Got the better of Gravenberch on multiple occasions, particularly in the first half. Felt his freedom was more limited and given more defensive instructions on the night. His touches under pressure were amongst the best from both sides but needed to see more of the ball.

Arda Guler—4.5: The teenager struggled on the biggest stage with his lack of physicality being put under the spotlight.

Brahim—6.5: Excellent dribbling and technique while on the ball but his role in the team wasn’t clear and did not see enough of the ball to make a material difference in the match.

Kylian Mbappe—2: Shockingly poor. Was this worst than the Clasico? The focus was on Mbappe with Vinicius Junior out and the Frenchman looked nowhere near the level required to play for this club. His total lack of effort is unacceptable. Capped the performance with a missed penalty in what could have turned the tide of the match.

Substitutions:

Lucas Vazquez—7: Drew the penalty that Mbappe failed to convert.

Dani Ceballos—7: Should he have started the match? Some good tackles in midfield, 18/18 passes, and the switch of play that led to the Lucas penalty kick.

Fran Garcia—6.5: Some well timed interceptions and good defending 1v1 vs Salah.

Endrick—N/A: Late substitution — ran out onto the pitch and constantly fouled Liverpool players.
