In an interview with Carré media this Wednesday, Alexandre Lacazette spoke about the European clubs where he could have played. The French striker from Olympique Lyonnais could, for example, have played for Atlético de Madrid or Juventus.
If he only knew two clubs in his career, Lyon and Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette could have played in other big clubs. In an interview with Carré media this Wednesday, the striker (33) revealed the clubs where he was in discussions. Author of 14 goals and four assists during his first season with the Gunners, the ex-French international, who formed a formidable duo with the Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, found himself coveted.
In addition to Ligue 1 and the Premier League, the Rhodanian could thus have discovered La Liga. “There were discussions with Barcelona in 2019. Afterwards I could have gone to Atlético de Madrid,” announced the striker, before adding: “There was also Juve during Covid.”
He refused Paris and Marseille
But already before joining London and Arsenal during the 2017 summer transfer window, Lacazette had discussions with Laurent Blanc's Paris Saint-Germain. The French coach and his assistant Jean-Louis Gasset were seduced by the finishing qualities of the General, who finished top scorer in the French championship during the 2014-2015 season (27 goals).
“When Paris comes, it’s true that you see the figures, it inevitably attracts you, but I already didn’t want to go to another French club than Lyon and I wanted to taste another championship,” said told the striker to the Carré media this Wednesday, who had preferred to join Arsène Wenger at Arsenal.
And after five years, his contract ends, Lacazette can return to Ligue 1. “I was also approached by Marseille, who had discussed with my agent. But I'm from Lyon, so it didn't interest me that much. How long did it take me to respond? A few seconds,” he smiles. In the end, his return to France came true. In 2022, he returns (freely) to his Olympique Lyonnais, with whom he is playing in the Europa League this season. Pierre Sage's players face FK Qarabag this Thursday (6:45 p.m.).
