Nathan Aké called for unity in these difficult times for the team.
Erling Haaland put us ahead from the penalty spot just before half-time and made history in the Champions League. He became the fastest player to reach 50 goals. He achieved it in 44 games.
A deflected shot from İlkay Gündoğan after the break doubled the lead, before Haaland made it three shortly after.
However, the visitors scored three times in the final 15 minutes thanks to Anis Hadj Moussa, Santiago Giménez and Dávid Hancko to earn a point at the Etihad Stadium.
The draw means Pep Guardiola’s men have gone six games without a win in all competitions.
Defender Nathan Aké has asked the team to show mental strength to change our luck:
“I think we obviously haven’t been in this situation before. This is where we have to show our character,” he said. “We have to stay mentally strong, believe in ourselves and stay together.”
“There’s a period in every season where people write us off. We just have to make sure we stay strong together as a team to get through this.”
“We played pretty well and had it under control. Then everything changed. We have to be stronger mentally.”
“When you’re 3-0 up at home, I think you can never give the game away like that. The only thing we can do now is fight. When you give up three goals at home you feel like a defeat.”
The Dutchman expressed the team’s discomfort with the result:
“It’s tough right now. It’s a tough night,” he said. “The only thing we can do now is look forward to the next match.”
“It’s Liverpool. It’s an important game. It’s another challenge we have to overcome.”
