The requisitions began in the so-called Mazan rape trial on Monday, November 25. Dominique Pelicot, accused of having handed over his wife, Gisèle, to dozens of strangers suspected of having raped her, faces 20 years in prison.
Gisèle Pelicot left the court in Avignon (Vaucluse), moved and determined, on the evening of Monday, November 25. “Let justice be done”she demands. A few hours earlier, with his head down, Dominique Pelicot seemed dejected. The attorney general requested 20 years of criminal imprisonment, the maximum sentence. “It’s no surprise (…), it’s what I expected. But despite everything, these remain shocking and heavy requisitions”declared his lawyer, Me Béatrice Navarro.
The indictment began this Monday. 50 other defendants are on trial alongside Dominique Pelicot. Me Louis-Alain Lemaire, lawyer for two accused, said he “quite stunned by the severity of the requisitions”. They, like most of the accused, are being prosecuted for aggravated rape of Gisèle Pelicot.
In the morning, 17 years in prison were requested against a 63-year-old man, who is accused of having imitated the modus operandi of Dominique Pelicot, by drugging and raping his own wife. The requisitions will continue on Tuesday.
