Giroud and Lloris stopped in the semi-final of the Western Conference during the MLS playoffs. Opposed to Seattle, Los Angeles FC lost in overtime (1-2).
Titled in 2022, the Los Angeles FC of Lloris and Giroud will not seek a new title this season. After winning the American Cup, the Californians lost in the Western Conference semi-final against Seattle (1-2, ap). Less than six months after his signing, the first assessment for the former AC Milan striker is mixed.
The leader takes the door
Los Angeles FC had finished first at the end of the regular season and approached the match against Seattle with a lot of confidence. In front of his home crowd, everything started well for LAFC when Hollingshead opened the scoring with a cross shot (50th, 1-0). Despite numerous attempts on goal by the Swiss Sounders goalkeeper, Los Angeles failed to make the difference. Worse, the Californian team offered the visitors the equalizer after a harmless cross blocked by Chanot – who played for AC Ajaccio last year – in his own cages (58th, 1-1). In overtime, Seattle would crucify its opponent after a shot at the near post from Morris (108th, 1-2), unstoppable for Lloris. Los Angeles FC stops in the semifinals.
Giroud not very decisive
Olivier Giroud will not have succeeded in leading his team towards qualification on the night of Saturday to Sunday. Released in the 70th minute, the Frenchman lacked sharpness. 25 balls touched, 10 ball losses and only one shot, off target, on the Seattle cage. A meeting which will leave regrets, but which testifies to the half-hearted start of an American adventure. If the former French international brings all his experience, his performances do not match his talent. With only two goals scored since his arrival in Los Angeles, Giroud did not find the net and was not dangerous against Seattle. Before the match, Giroud had only scored one shot in the last eight appearances with the LAFC jersey. Frustrated and surprised by the intensity of the game in the American league, Giroud now has time to take stock of his first experience in the United States.
