Before the finale, there was the blood-curdling Round Table from the previous episode. Both content creator Ender Scholtens and actor Roman Van Houtven received three votes. As a result, a new vote followed to determine the dropout. In his final plea, Ender argued that Roman was the best actor of all the survivors. That’s why he thought Roman was a traitor. But the actor played the murdered innocence: “I have to defend myself, but I don’t know for what. I just asked if there were any suspicions against me. No one responded.”
William Boeva played the game hard and sacrificed Roman. Just like Hans Otten, again “because Roman is the best actor”. Ingeborg consistently chose Ender, who also received a vote from Sean Dhondt. Julie’s double voice was the deciding factor, and she chose… Ender. Roman could barely hold back the tears of relief. “I trusted those people at the table so much. And yet there are at least two traitors among them,” Ender gloated.

William took advantage of the disillusionment among the allies to make his move. “We have to stop making logical choices. Isn’t it logical that the traitors don’t put a traitor on their death list?” Roman also went all out and gave everyone else a run for their money. “I feel screwed. I don’t think it’s fair that I have never been asked any questions,” he said with a mock sob in his voice.
Julie didn’t trust it and asked Roman flatly if he was cheating. “He played well in gaining my confidence. I think I made such a huge mistake,” she said.
Then came the death list. Since Ender had gone home, the choice to kill was between Hans Otten and William Boeva. But as a traitor he can hardly kill himself. Hans had no shield. The traitors would normally only know that at breakfast, if it weren’t for William’s masterful move. “Hans doesn’t have the shield, because I hugged him and felt his pockets at the same time,” he told his fellow traitors.
Julie was on track in the morning. Roman and Sean’s interventions were clearly played for her. But the traitors still had all day to push Julie and Ingeborg in each other’s direction. Even though that was dangerous. When Roman told Ingeborg that he no longer trusted Julie, Ingeborg realized that he said something illogical, and that she had been trusting a traitor for days.
At the penultimate Round Table, Sean chose Julie, which made it clear to the ladies that he was also not clean. Julie chose Roman and vice versa. When William also chose Julie, it was clear to the journalist who the traitors were. “I find this funny. A real comedy,” she said. Exit Julie.
In the last voting round there were three traitors against Ingeborg and the card was openly played. The traitors go home as winners.
“Did I have a euphoric feeling after the final win? Look, you work for days towards that victory,” says William Boeva. “Succeeding in your goal is nice, but I rarely experience euphoria. It was a great feeling when you reached that finish line. And in the best possible way. All the stress of those ten days had to be released.”
It became exciting at the end with the death list, on which William had put his own name. “With the loss of Julie (who had the shield, ed.) and banishing Ender became all hands on deck. But the allies had no way of knowing that I had put myself on the hit list. The suspicions against me disappeared again with that move. And Ender had been mentioned before as a possible traitor, which made me hope he would be banished. That turned out to be the case.”
“I started the game as an ally, but was blackmailed after four days,” says Sean Dhondt. “I was forced to switch to the dark side. It was an honor to compete for both camps.”
Roman also switched camps: “I haven’t regretted it for a moment. This was madness. William’s brains and Sean’s sweetness… It worked. How graaf is that?”
Ingeborg concluded on a philosophical note. “What I have really never mastered in my life is distrust. I also wanted to learn to distrust, and thanks to Roman I succeeded. A beautiful lesson.”
The traitors will return to VTM in 2025.
