A little over two weeks after their home defeat against Auxerre (1-3), OM resumed their march forward in Ligue 1. On Saturday, the Marseille club won 3-1 at Lens ( 12th day), with goals from Rongier, Luis Henrique and Hojbjerg, to consolidate its third place, three points behind Monaco (2nd).
In difficulty at home since the start of the season, Marseille on the contrary displays an excellent face away from its bases. This was once again confirmed this Saturday with a 3-1 victory on the Lens pitch. This success was not, however, acquired easily by Roberto de Zerbi's men. The Lensois showed a lot of intensity from the start and had several opportunities to open the scoring in the first half.
From a tight angle, Nzola first saw his shot repelled by Rulli (7th). Ideally served by Frankowski, Medina then failed to get his header on target in the area (26th). The Sang et Or finally had a double opportunity at the end of the first period, but Rulli intervened in front of Pereira da Costa, then Nzola (42nd). Under pressure, Marseille barely existed in this first act, even if Maupay could have opened the scoring with a big opportunity, ultimately off-target (41st).
An OM with two faces
Returning from the locker room, the Olympians showed a much more conquering face. We didn't have to wait long to see them come to the fore, with Rongier at the conclusion of a movement initiated by Greenwood with the help of Maupay, the decisive passer (0-1, 49th). Marseille doubled the lead shortly after on a counter, again started by Greenwood. Luis Henrique finished the job with a cross shot, after once again a good shift from Maupay (0-2, 57th). Extinct most of the time in this second half, Lens managed to regain some juice in the last ten minutes.
Following a mix-up, Fulgini gave his team hope by reducing the gap (1-2, 80th). A few minutes later, the Lensois public believed in the equalization of their team, but Labeau-Lascary's goal was finally logically refused for a foul on Nadir at the start of the action. On the free kick that followed, OM killed the match by scoring on a powerful strike from Hojbjerg on the open side (1-3, 89th). Beaten by Auxerre before the break (1-3), Marseille is relaunching with this success as the reception of AS Monaco looms next Sunday.
