Switzerland assumed its role as the huge favorite at the European Curling Championships in Lohja (Finland). Reigning continental champions, the CC Aarau curlers made short work of Sweden in the final (8-4) on Saturday and thus completed the competition without the slightest defeat.

Silvana Tirinzoni (45 years old), Alina Paetz (34 years old), Carole Howald (31 years old), Stefanie Berset (28 years old) and Selina Witschonke (25 years old) had, as in the semi-finals against Italy, a great start . They scored two points in the first end, before stealing a stone in the second. After two rounds, the score was already 3-0. Sweden, led by Anna Hasselborg, never managed to recover.

The gap in favor of Switzerland only increased thanks to the tactical knowledge of Silvana Tirinzoni and the perfectly placed stones of Alina Paetz. She finished this final with a staggering 90% success rate.

With this second consecutive European title, skip Silvana Tirinzoni adds a new line to her formidable record. Quadruple world champion (2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023), the Zurich woman is only missing an Olympic gold medal. In 2022 in Beijing, Switzerland, the big favorite for the event, finished just off the podium.

In the men's category, Switzerland concluded the competition at the foot of the podium after its defeat on Friday against Norway (7-4) in the small final.
