Stromae is back with a new song recorded as a duet with singer Pomme

The Belgian singer who has just been decorated by the King of the Belgians releases his first title in two and a half years. This new single was recorded for the series broadcast on Netflix: “Arcane”.

The new title by Belgian singer Stromae, released this Saturday, November 23 at 9 a.m., is entitled My best enemy. It was recorded as a duet with French singer Pomme for the soundtrack of the animated series Arcane, currently being broadcast on the Netflix platform.

The song begins with these lyrics: You are the best thing that happened to me, but also the worst thing that happened to me. That day I met you, maybe I wish that day had never happened. The worst blessing, the greatest curse.”

The Belgian press welcomes this unexpected return. On the newspaper website The evening, critic Didier Zacharie asks: “Does this return relaunch the heavy album-concert-tour machine or is it a pebble thrown into the pond? It's too early to tell. In the meantime, Stromae returns to us as he left, with a title with bittersweet lyrics on a warm rhythm.

The singer was decorated Thursday, November 21 by the Belgian King Philippe during a ceremony at the royal palace in Brussels. He awarded him the title of Commander of the Order of the Crown which rewards “exceptional merit“in the artistic, literary or scientific fields . The monarch stressed “his deep and offbeat musical universe“.

Public appearances by the 39-year-old Belgian star have been very rare since the announcement in May 2023 of the end of a world tour for health reasons. This tour to promote his third album entitled Multitude which was to last until December 2023 had already been interrupted. But after a few canceled dates, producer Auguri had to resign himself and announce the singer's state of health was incompatible with this performance.

Boosted by a giant world tour in the wake of his second album with multiple hits Square root, released in 2013, Stromae first threw in the towel at the end of 2015, suffering from depression aggravated by the side effects of an antimalarial.

He returned to the stage in 2022 to present Multitudeincluding the title L'Enfer with very personal accents on his suicidal thoughts. The album allowed him to win a sixth and seventh Victoire de la Musique, in France, in February 2023.
