On the one hand, Jyoti Amge, a 30-year-old Indian actress who notably played in the series American Horror Story and which measures 62.8 cm. On the other, Rumeysa Gelgi, a 27-year-old Turkish researcher, measuring 2.15 meters. The two women have been selected to become official icons of the famous book of records, on the occasion of the 20th annual Guinness World Records day.
Despite the 1.52 m that separates them, the young women got along particularly well. “It was sometimes difficult for us to make eye contact because of our height difference, but it was great,” says Rumeysa Gelgi. “It was very pleasant, she is so nice, I felt at ease,” says Jyoti Amge.
Jyoti Amge has achondroplasia, a bone disease that blocks her growth and reduces her life expectancy. Rumeysa Gelgi suffers from Weaver syndrome which causes accelerated growth and craniofacial neurological abnormalities. Her illness also prevents her from standing on her own and forces her to move around in a wheelchair or with a walker.
“The goal of Guinness is precisely to celebrate difference,” proudly exclaims Craig Glenday, the book’s editor-in-chief. “And how better to celebrate this day of records than by bringing together two of the most iconic record holders we have? “. Launched in 2004, Guinness World Records Day serves to encourage people around the world to achieve new feats.
