A serious road accident in Val-de-Marne on Thursday, November 21, raises questions about safety measures and their application by the authorities or by users.
Snow and ice make driving conditions very difficult. Thursday November 21, the day of the accident, there were restrictions in Île-de-France but on one condition: the maximum speed was reduced by 20 km/h for all motorists on the region's national and motorway roads. The N118 west of Paris was the only road closed to heavy goods vehicles until midday. During a visit to the field, the Minister of Transport pointed out the behavior of certain drivers: “There are clearly a number of motorists who have not respected a number of rules which have been taken for their safety.”, declared the minister.
Suitable tires are mandatory but only in certain mountainous regions. Six regions are affected by this restriction where, from November 1 until the end of March, all vehicles must be equipped with winter tires or chains.
