If Danielle Mitterrand had not died of heart problems on November 22, 2011 at the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital in Paris, she would have been 100 years old this year. Resistant, fierce defender of human rights and those of all oppressed peoples, the wife, for fifty-two years, of François Mitterrand was a fighter and the ills that overwhelm our planet today would certainly not leave her silent.
The absolute paradox being that, it is precisely on her ability to remain silent that the secret of her relationship rested with the former President of the Republic. From 1965 to his death in 1996, the latter enjoyed a passionate relationship with Anne Pingeot, whom he met when she was only 14 years old and later became a curator at the Louvre Museum. In May 1981, François Mitterrand was elected President of the Republic. So that the press does not cause a scandal, he orders his wife to put an end to her extramarital affair.
