Guinea, beaten 1-0 by Tanzania on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam, sees its hope of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations compromised. However, the Guinean Football Federation (Féguifoot) has officially filed a reservation with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), denouncing an administrative irregularity concerning a Tanzanian player.
According to Féguifoot, a Taifa Stars player, who entered the game with the number 26, did not appear on the official match sheet. After verification, it appears that this player was indeed registered, but with bib 24, and not the 26 worn during the match. This inconsistency, considered an administrative error, motivated the Guinean complaint. The Syli National coach, Michel Dussuyer, confirmed this initiative in an interview with Afrik-Foot: “ Yes, I confirm it to you. The reservation was officially filed, it took over an hour. We noticed that this Tanzanian player was wearing the jersey with the number 26, even though he was listed on the match sheet with the number 24. It seems quite obvious to me that this is an administrative error. And the CAF regulations are very precise on this case. »
For the moment, Guinea is excluded from the circle of 24 nations qualified for the final phase of CAN 2025. It remains to be seen whether the reservation submitted will succeed and allow the Guineans to keep a chance of participating in the tournament. The CAF decision is now eagerly awaited.
