At the end of the trial of Pierre Palmade, tried for injuring three people in an accident, the lawyer for the civil parties Mourad Battikh said he was “satisfied”.
At the end of a day of trial, the “satisfaction” of the civil parties. This Wednesday, November 20, Pierre Palmade was sentenced, at the end of the day, to a five-year prison sentence, including two years, for injuring three people, including a pregnant woman, in a road accident that occurred in February 2023 in Seine-et-Marne.
The three injured people, present at the hearing, “are satisfied with the holding of the debates, each was able to express their point of view, what they felt before, during and after this dramatic day”, underlines Me Mourad Battikh, the lawyer for the civil parties, leaving the courtroom of the Melun court.
“The court listened, the court decided, the court arbitrated,” summarizes the council.
As for the prison sentence against the comedian, “the civil party does not have to be satisfied with a judgment, it is satisfied with having been listened to, heard, respected, by everyone in this court”, insists Me Mourad Battikh.
Pierre Palmade trial: confronted with the victims' story, the comedian asks for “forgiveness”
“No judgment will live up to what my clients have experienced. This is why the sentence does not matter to us (…) Nothing and no one will be able to redeem the loss of a child, of the ability to to move, to move, the loss for a child of the innocence of life,” he adds.
During this day of trial, on the stand, Pierre Palmade apologized to the three victims, who “were touched”, but “were very distant” with these words. The injured “are still touched, shocked by the life that is theirs and the traumas that are theirs”, underlines Mr. Battikh.
“If there should be an appeal, we will be present”
At the Melun court, this Wednesday, debates were heated on the recognition of the legal status of the fetus, one of the victims, six months pregnant at the time of the events, having lost her baby in the accident.
“Everyone was able to express their point of view on the recognition of the legal status of the fetus,” explains Me Battikh, urging the legislator to “fill this void, this hole in the legal racket.”
After Pierre Palmade's decision not to appear voluntarily for “manslaughter” in this context, the lawyer for the civil parties confesses to having been “disappointed”. “We would have liked there to be consistency in the defendant’s comments,” regrets the council.
Pierre Palmade, sentenced to five years in prison, two of which are closed, can now appeal. “We don't fear anything, if there were to be an appeal, we will be present. We are waiting,” explains the victims' lawyer, stressing that the comedian has ten days to come forward.
