The state of health of Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the National Front, has attracted keen attention for several days. Hospitalized at the beginning of November due to general weakness, the 96-year-old former politician is under close medical supervision. Faced with persistent rumors about an imminent end of life, his family and those around him were keen to react.
A worrying hospitalization
Marine Le Pen, interviewed this Wednesday, November 20 on RTL, confirmed concerns about her father's health. “We have, because we love him, concerns about his health,” she soberly declared, while reminding us that these moments are a matter of family privacy. According to close sources, the hospitalization of Jean-Marie Le Pen was decided after worrying analyses. Since then, no release date has been announced.
The former political leader's entourage, however, wants to be reassuring. His condition would be “stable” according to those close to him, although Jean-Marie Le Pen remains weakened by his age and recurring health problems. This hospitalization “planned, but accelerated due to signs of weakness”, according to Paris Match, aims above all to guarantee rigorous medical monitoring.
Rumors about his end of life
Last Sunday, alarming rumors circulated on social networks, claiming that Jean-Marie Le Pen had received the last rites. This information, widely relayed, was denied by relatives who denounced “unworthy voyeurism”. Some media also mentioned his alleged desire to leave the hospital to end his days at home, allegations deemed unfounded.
Faced with these speculations, a close friend of Jean-Marie Le Pen told AFP that he is “very weakened”, but that his hospitalization is not dramatic. This is not the first time that the former president of the National Front has had to be hospitalized in recent years. In 2023, a heart attack had already required emergency treatment.
Declining health for several years
For several months, Jean-Marie Le Pen's state of health has no longer allowed him to assume his legal obligations. Last July, he was excused from appearing in the trial of National Front parliamentary assistants due to his impaired physical and mental faculties.
Weakened by successive health accidents – minor stroke in 2022, pulmonary complication in 2018 – Jean-Marie Le Pen, placed under legal protection, now lives withdrawn from public life.
