The youngest of the Lebrun brothers fell against the German Duda for his first match in the WTT Finals, Wednesday November 20, in Fukuoka (Japan).
The WTT Finals are already over for Félix Lebrun. Dulled by a magnificent but exhausting season, the youngest of the Lebrun brothers was eliminated as soon as he entered the fray, Wednesday, in this last international tournament of the season which brings together the sixteen best players in the world. Félix Lebrun lost in the round of 16 against the German Benedikt Duda 3 sets to 2.
World No.4 and bronze medalist at the Olympics, Félix Lebrun landed as top seed in this event comparable to the tennis Masters. But he was subjected to the law of Duda, 18th player in the world and decidedly bête noire. A month ago, the German eliminated “Féfé” in the quarter-finals of the European Championships.
Alexis enters the fray on Thursday
On Wednesday, Félix Lebrun started the match ideally, winning the first set 11-9. He finally lost the next two sets, 11-6, 14-12. The reaction, and the victory of the fourth set (11-6), was ultimately in vain, Duda winning the victory (11-9) while the Hérault resident accumulated mistakes.
The hope of the Lebrun family in these WTT Finals now rests on Alexis Lebrun. The eldest, reigning European champion and 14th player in the world, enters the fray on Thursday. He will be opposed to the best currently on the planet ping, the Chinese Lin Shidong (N.2).
The two brothers will play together during the doubles tournament, Thursday morning (8:10 a.m. French time), against the Japanese pair, Matsushima/Harimoto.
