Dries Mertens and Jan Vertonghen announce a second team for their football competition ‘Masters of Madness’, which can be seen from February 3 on Play4, GoPlay and YouTube. Blue Thunder is managed by ex-Red Devil Wesley Sonck and his 25-year-old daughter Amy.

Last Wednesday, Mertens and Vertonghen announced a first team with ‘FC Paniekattack’ with Kat Kerkhofs and Bockie De Repper as coaches. With Blue Thunder, 2 of the 8 teams have now been announced.

Ex-Red Devil and current analyst Wesley Sonck forms a coaching duo with his daughter Amy, who is active as a content creator on Instagram and regularly poses there in outspoken outfits and bikinis.

Jan Vertonghen played thirteen international matches between 2007 and 2010 together with Wesley Sonck, ex-striker of Genk, Ajax and Club Brugge, among others. During the qualifying match in Turkey for the 2010 World Cup, Sonck even scored with an assist from Vertonghen.

“Wesley is always sincere: as a player, as a coach, as a commentator but also as a friend. I love his open-mindedness, but I love his humor even more,” says Vertonghen.

“It seems difficult to contradict Wesley, but Amy really has little difficulty with it,” says Dries Mertens about the dynamic between father and daughter.

“For me, football is about winning and I share that mindset with my daughter. When we have something in mind, we do everything we can to achieve it. That positive stubbornness is typical of the Sonck family. And she is the only one who can make it clear that I can also be wrong,” says Wesley Sonck. (Continue reading below the video)

“Masters of Madness seems like a video game at times and then dad could certainly use someone from my generation. I will focus on Blue Thunder’s communication and the guidance of our players,” says Amy about her role.

Masters of Madness is a football competition with new rules that make the game faster and more compact. 8 teams of 11 players (M/F/X) compete for the title of ‘Masters of Madness’. The matches can be followed live in the Madness Arena (Waagnatie, Antwerp) during the Christmas holidays and the program can be viewed from February 3 on Play4, GoPlay and YouTube.
