Monday, November 18, the Versailles judicial court sentenced deputy Karl Olive to eight months in prison for illegal taking of interest during his municipal mandate. In a press release relayed by The Parisianthe court explains that the elected representative Renaissance participated in the recruitment of the current director of youth and sports in Poissy “under conditions based on an arrangement allowing freedom from the rules of appointment of the civil service”.
At the same time, the man and his father, former deputy director of town hall services, were also found guilty and sentenced to suspended prison sentences of six and four months respectively. In addition, they will also have to pay a fine of 3,000 euros each. These convictions correspond to the prosecution's requisitions.
Karl Olive will appeal
The court nevertheless did not declare Karl Olive ineligible. The MP criticized the judgment: “When I was elected mayor, I knew half of the 1,000 agents! I am a child of Poissy. The decisions taken on this issue were not made by the prince, but were validated by an entire chain and voted on in the municipal council “There was no personal enrichment, no misappropriation of public funds. This decision is a bad signal for the country's elected officials who, like me, commit ourselves every day.” His lawyer, Rodolphe Bosselut, announced that his client would appeal the decision.
