The president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo proposed to the member leaders of the Group of Twenty (G20) to sow life and peace, instead of wars, for which he promoted that the 20 most relevant economies in the world allocate a part of military spending to launch a reforestation programthe largest in history.
On this first day of official activities, the federal president presented to her peers the possibility of each nation allocating one percent of military spending, which annually would represent 24 billion dollars as part of a strategy to mitigate global warming.
“The proposal is to establish a fund to allocate the 1% of our countries’ military spending to carry out the largest reforestation program in history. It would mean freeing some 24 billion dollars a year to support 6 million tree planters who would reforest 15 million hectaressomething like four times the area of Denmark, the entire area of Guatemala, Belize and El Salvador combined, or 30% that of Sweden (…). The proposal is to stop sowing wars, let’s sow peace and sow life,” explained President Sheinbaum Pardo.
