The Mesmerir Mountains region, located between the provinces of Tinghir and Azilal, witnessed a disappearance incident that aroused public interest, after a Moroccan citizen named Rachid Harchaoui and his German wife lost contact while they were on a four-day exploratory trip, before the authorities succeeded in finding them on Monday morning.
The details of the incident began when heavy snow surprised the couple while they were exploring the area between Mesmerar and Zawiyat Ahansal, which led to their movement faltering and their inability to return, as the rugged geographical nature and harsh weather conditions made their location almost isolated, which increased the complexity of the rescue operation and raised the concern of their family and the security authorities.
Immediately upon learning of the incident, the local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie launched intensive search operations that continued over the past four days, and as the challenges worsened due to bad weather conditions and the difficulty of accessing the area, the authorities used a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter, which succeeded, after strenuous efforts, in locating the couple and transporting them to the city of Azilal. To receive the necessary aid, informed sources confirmed that their health condition is stable.
The sources confirmed that the interests of the Ministry of Interior played a major role in coordinating efforts, as they issued clear instructions to use all possible resources to ensure that the couple was found as soon as possible. The local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie also worked in full cooperation to confront the region’s rugged terrain and harsh climatic conditions.
