War in Ukraine: a never-ending conflict
The tone is rising (once again) between Moscow and Washington. Several American media announced on Sunday that Joe Biden had given the green light to Ukraine's use of long-range missiles for strikes on Russian territory. This decision, taken a few weeks before the transfer of power to the White House, aroused the anger of the Kremlin.
“It is clear that the outgoing administration in Washington intends to take measures to continue to add fuel to the fire and provoke a further rise in tensions”criticized Dmitri Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian presidency, on Monday. If it were to be officially confirmed, this authorization would lead to “a fundamentally new situation in terms of US involvement in this conflict”he warned.
“Nothing new under the sun”
Furthermore, these strikes in Russia will not be “not carried out by Ukraine, but by the countries which give authorizationn,” denounced Moscow. The coordinates of the targets are not provided by the Ukrainian military, but by specialists from these Western countries. This radically changes the nature of their involvement“, added Dmitry Peskov.
Note that France has, for the moment, not changed its position on this matter. “You heard President (Emmanuel) Macron in Meseberg (Germany) on May 25, where we openly said that it was an option that we were considering, if it was necessary to authorize strikes on targets from which the Russians attack Ukrainian territory”assured Jean-Noël Barrot, from Brussels. “So, nothing new under the sun“, launched the French Minister of Foreign Affairs.

A few weeks earlier, when this type of American aid was still only hypotheses, Vladimir Putin had warned Western countries. “If this decision is made, it will mean nothing less than the direct participation of NATO countries, the United States, European countries in the war in Ukraine”he insisted.
