Just before receiving his prize as best referee of the last Euro, this Sunday at San Siro before the Nations League match between Italy and France, François Letexier gave his reaction to RMC Sport. He salutes the level of French arbitration.
How do you feel after this award?
It is a great honor to receive this trophy because it rewards the progress made at the Euro and because it comes in the wake of big European and world names. It’s also a great source of pride for that.
Does this prove that French arbitration is at the cutting edge?
We had already proven it, by the number of referees who represented France at the Euro. There were eight French referees, Clément Turpin played the opening match with his team. I made the final with my team. No other European country can boast a similar record. So even before this trophy, I think we had already proven it.
What are your ambitions now?
Lots of things. You just have to start from scratch, forget all that and make the same efforts every day to achieve great designations.
