Canadian radio personality and accomplished artist, Rita Carrey, the sister of actor Jim Carrey, died on November 14, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Her husband Alex shared the news on social media. A hard blow for actor Jim Carrey who experienced trauma in 2015. His ex, makeup artist Cathriona White, ended her life a few months after the end of their relationship. A death which greatly affected the “Truman Show” actor.
Rita Carrey, a life devoted to music
Born in Canada near Toronto, Rita Carrey has led a rich and varied artistic career. Singer-songwriter at the head of the Rita Carrey Band, she has notably distinguished herself on stage as the opening act for renowned artists such as April Wine and Honeymoon Suite. She even shared the stage with the legendary Bruce Springsteen. Her voice has also resonated across the airwaves as co-host and producer of the show”The Peet & Reet Show” on 91.7 Giant FM radio.
Rita Carrey's inconsolable seas
“Rita and I shared 16 years together and got married last year in July, in an outdoor ceremony that she had always dreamed of”confided Alex, her husband, in his message. “We traveled the world and met many people we consider friends. Rita was my best friend, my lover and my beautiful wife.”
Her former radio co-host, Brian Salmon, highlights her exceptional generosity: although the sister of a Hollywood star, Rita remained humble, discreetly using props from her brother Jim's films for charity auctions.
A final tribute for Jim Carrey's sister
Faithful to the spirit of Rita, for whom “Christmas was her favorite time of year, in fact it was Christmas every day for her”a candlelight vigil will be held on December 7, 2024 on Heathcote Terrace in St. Catharines. The event will be followed by “Christmas on the Terrace” for the benefit of the Gillian's Place association. Rita Carrey's husband invites those who wish to honor her memory to make donations in the form of “non-perishable food, children's clothing, toiletries or unwrapped gifts for children.”
“It was a wonderful and crazy trip with Rita”concludes Alex in his farewell message. “She filled everyone's hearts with joy with every step she took and I will never forget this beautiful and incredibly talented woman. Goodbye my love. Goodbye my friend. Until we meet again. You really got the life of your dreams.”
Rita Carrey leaves behind her siblings, including actor Jim Carrey, 62, John and Patricia Carrey. Jim Carrey's representative declined to comment on the news.
