The controversial return of American boxer Mike Tyson ended with his loss to YouTube content creator Jake Paul, with a unanimous decision from the judges on Friday in Texas.
Tyson (58 years old) failed to land decisive punches during an eight-round fight, which ended with Paul prevailing by a large margin on points (80-72, 79-73, 79-73).
Paul, 27, relied on his speed and movement to control the aging Tyson, and he succeeded in putting the former heavyweight world champion under pressure when he landed a series of powerful punches during the third round.
However, Paul failed to deliver on his promise of a knockout that he had spoken of on Thursday during a tense weigh-in, which saw Tyson slap Paul in the face.
Tyson was only able to land a few punches that bothered Paul, in the presence of seventy thousand spectators in AT&T Hall, in addition to millions of followers around the world.
Statistics revealed that Tyson hit his opponent with only 18 punches out of 97 attempts, compared to Paul’s 78 punches out of 278 attempts.
In the final moments of the fight, Paul bowed out of respect to Tyson before announcing the end of the confrontation with the bell ringing.
