While certain departments have notably threatened to suspend the RSA if the government does not reverse the budgetary cuts planned for 2025, Michel Barnier announced that the effort required of these communities will be “very significantly” reduced, reported BFMTV Business.
Threats that bear fruit. Thursday, November 14, the departments led by the right and the center announced their intention to suspend the payment of active solidarity income (RSA) and to stop taking care of new unaccompanied minors (UMA), after the announcements of the government on the community budget in 2025.
This Friday, at the close of the meetings of the Départements de France association, Michel Barnier affirmed that the effort requested from the departments within the framework of the 2025 budget will be reduced “very significantly”BFMTV Business reported. And the Prime Minister estimates that the “'departmental model' as known for 30 years” has arrived “to its limits”.
The departments represent 44% of the effort requested from communities
Earlier today, on franceinfo, Maud Bregeon had already indicated that “the door is open to reducing the effort compared to that which is required today, because we are aware that a certain number of departments are today in extremely complicated situations”.
In an interview given to West France this Thursday, Michel Barnier had already opened the way to “significant adjustments” in favor of communities. The 2025 finance bill provides for savings of 5 billion euros for communities, in particular for the departments, which represent 44% of the effort, according to Départements de France.
