Morocco did well on Sunday in qualifying for the African Cup of Nations. The Lions of the Atlas were already assured of qualification for the final tournament, but they also secured the group win on Friday evening with a 1-5 victory over Gabon. Brahim Díaz was the big man with two goals in the space of two minutes, while Ismael Saibari scored his first international goal in the closing stages.
Details:
Morocco had a false start, as Gabon took the lead after four minutes through Denis Bouanga. The attacker easily broke free from Achraf Hakimi and beautifully found the far corner: 0-1.
Twenty minutes later, however, the match was completely turned around. Morocco struck three times within a period of six minutes. First Jamal Harkass was responsible for the equalizer with a header, after which Brahim Díaz scored the 1-2 and 1-3 with two alert strikes.
In the final phase, Morocco managed to achieve a big victory. Substitute Youssef En-Nesyri scored for the 1-4 on Saibari’s instructions, after which Saibari himself posted the 1-5 final score. The PSV midfielder brilliantly passed two defenders along the back line and then shot high and hard.
