What happened at the National Arena when the Kosovo anthem was sung
The national anthem of Kosovo was the first to be heard on the National Arena, and immediately a chorus of boos erupted from some Romanian supporters.
The reaction of those Romanian supporters can be considered a response to what happened in Pristina in September. Then, the Romanian anthem was booed by the Kosovar fans.
However, there were also different reactions. Other supporters preferred to chant “Romania, Romania” when the Kosovo anthem was sung.
Afterwards, the soprano Irina Baianț performed the Romanian national anthem in front of almost 50,000 supporters of the tricolors.
Ilie Dumitrescu wanted to applaud the Kosovo anthem
Ilie Dumitrescu came during the week of the game with an original proposal. The former international great said that Romania’s fans could applaud when the Kosovo anthem is sung.
“I was thinking of a scenario like this: when the anthem of the people of Kosovo will be sung, let everyone applaud. Like this, as an answer for what they did. Like this, with white gloves for how they offended, and we should applaud for anthem, one thing from that. That’s how I’d like to see the atmosphere. I’ll be at the game too“, said Ilie Dumitrescu, at Digisport.
