The high-tension Football match between France and Israel took place Thursday evening without incident, apart from a brief crowd movement accompanied by an exchange of blows in a stand at the Stade de France. An exceptional security system was put in place after last week's violence in Amsterdam. “The match went very well from a security point of view, there were no incidents. We had a very large system both around the stadium and in public transport, it went very well,” greeted Laurent Nuñez, the Paris police prefect on France 2.
Two arrests
A brief crowd movement occurred in an upper stand during the first period, leading to the intervention of stewards. In images obtained by AFP, spectators can be seen exchanging blows, including one carrying an Israeli flag on his shoulders. A source close to the matter told AFP about “provocations from people suspected of belonging to the far-left movement and PSG supporters (Auteuil tribune)”.
“A fight broke out and was immediately contained by the stewards of the Football Federation […] The police also took position, there were two arrests. One immediately, then one at the end of the match once we could see on video what had happened. Two people are in police custody,” said Laurent Nuñez, on the set of “4 Vérités”. “We were extremely responsive,” he said.
