Of the approximately 260 applications received from more than 60 countries, 50 were awarded the “Best Tourism Village” label. The awards ceremony took place during the 122nd session of the UN Tourism Executive Council from November 13 to 15 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
According to the announcement, the winning villages could benefit from a global media campaign by UN Tourism. The award gives the villages additional visibility.
Switzerland has nine “best tourism villages”. In recent years, Andermatt UR, Gruyères FR, Murten FR, Saas-Fee VS, Val Poschiavo GR, Morcote TI and Saint-Ursanne JU have already received this award. (dab/sda)
