Paraguay’s coach, Gustavo Alfaro, assured this Thursday that the 2-1 victory against Argentina brought him “fantastic points” with a view to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

“They were fantastic points, very difficult. It is difficult to get a point from Argentina,” stressed the coach when celebrating at a press conference Paraguay’s victory over the world champions this Thursday in Asunción, for the eleventh round of the South American qualifying round.

Alfaro highlighted that the victory offers Paraguay the way to qualify for the World Cup.

“With the rebellion of these players in adversity, I have no doubt that we will get there. When the predisposition is so great, time is secondary,” said the strategist.

Alfaro praised forward Tony Sanabria’s goal (the first against Argentina), from Chile, when he acrobatically hit a cross from the right.

“That’s hierarchy. What a goal this boy scored,” he observed with admiration, although he also praised the goal scored by the Argentine Lautaro Martínez, for the way in which he scored it.

“It’s the first time I can beat Argentina. Argentina is very difficult. They are the best team in the world,” he highlighted.

Paraguay will travel to El Alto (4,150 meters above sea level) to face Bolivia next Tuesday for the twelfth round of the qualifiers.
