Moise Kean, former Everton striker

Moise Kean has spoken out about his time at Goodison Park after leaving Everton in the summer of 2023.

The Toffees signed the Italian striker as a 19-year-old in 2019, signing on a five-year deal worth £25.1million [BBC Sport]but only made 39 appearances before re-joining Juventus.

Kean was sent out on loan to Saint-Germain and Juventus during his four-year spell with the Toffees, eventually returning to the Old Lady permanently for £25million [BBC Sport].

Speaking to The Athletic on Thursday [14 November]Kean said: “Out of all the experiences I’ve had, you won’t ever hear me say I had a bad one. I find positives in all of them.

“If I hadn’t spent that year at Everton, I wouldn’t have learned the things I did there. I was a bit unlucky. I went there expecting to play a bit more. I was 19. I joined from Juve and thought I was going to smash it.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go like that. We went through three coaches that year and mentally… it was all new for me. I was in England, it was a new environment…

“But England made me learn a lot about myself. I matured a lot. When I got there I didn’t play much. I used to think, ‘How am I not getting into this team, at Everton?’ Mentally, it made me evolve. I wasn’t playing and it was in dark times that I knew I had to grit my teeth and train even more.”

Everton now regretting Moise Kean exit?

Looking at the striker’s current form, fans will be urging the club to resign the player, but there was absolutely no way anyone knew how high he would fly after leaving Merseyside last year.

Kean really struggled during his time in England, only scoring a total of four goals for the Toffees and clearly needing to return to Italy. His transfer to Everton just didn’t work out.

Sean Dyche currently has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto at his disposal, both of whom have struggled in front of goal, and Kean could have been the perfect fit for this Toffees team now.

Hindsight, while always important, is also frustrating because had the Toffees remained patient with the striker, he could have blossomed in England, but he may have only reached his current stage due to his journey after Everton.

With 11 goals in 14 appearances for Fiorentina, the now-24-year-old finally looks to have settled and a club and has found his feet, which will no doubt be a relief for him and those around him.
