Léon Marchand is not happy with the government's about-face after abandoning the generalization of two additional hours of weekly sport in college. And the meeting on Friday, November 15 promises to be tense. Because the Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life, Gil Avérous is expected tomorrow at the TOEC Dauphins. A visit during which the member of the government should meet the French champion. The opportunity, perhaps, for the swimmer to explain himself to the chosen one.

Because the Olympic champion did not pull any punches on Thursday morning, expressing his dissatisfaction on his X account about the abandonment of the generalization of two additional hours of weekly sport in college. The resident shared the front page of the Team accompanied by the emoji of a clown.

A few hours after this publication, the Minister of National Education felt obliged to justify herself in a message posted on social networks.

We are not abandoning this ambition, on the contrary: we are adapting it to make it more effective, assured Anne Genetet. Fairer. Fairer for the working classes: sports practice at school is now reinforced and targeted at priority education establishments, where students practice sport the least due to lack of resources. We support those who need it most, to get more young people moving every day in our classes, our gyms, our swimming pools and our stadiums.”

In the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, two measures have been launched in recent years at schools to help “make France a sporting nation” and fight against physical inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle among the youngest. It was “30 minutes of daily physical activity” from CP to CM2, generalized in 2022, and “two hours of additional sport for middle school students” (2HSC) tested for more than two years and extended to 700 middle schools. last school year with the aim of being generalized in the next three years.

These two additional hours of sport have been extended to the start of the 2024 school year in priority education zones (around 1,100 middle schools).
But the generalization of the system intended for middle school students was abandoned by National Education, the ministry explaining that it was “not sustainable” in a circular published last week in the Official Bulletin of National Education.

Not sure that the arguments convinced the quadruple gold medalist whose publication was still present on social networks at the end of the day.
