A weather system bringing Pasadena’s first real rain in weeks is expected to arrive Thursday night, with temperatures dropping from 72 to 62 degrees Friday, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

The system will bring a 40% chance of showers after 10 p.m. Thursday, when temperatures will drop to 48 degrees with south winds around 5 mph.

Overnight temperatures will plunge to 37 degrees Friday night, potentially threatening sensitive plants throughout the garden-rich city.

The cooling trend will continue into Saturday, with highs reaching only 60 degrees before beginning a gradual warming trend Sunday. Temperatures are expected to rebound to 67 degrees Sunday and climb steadily to 73 by Wednesday.

Looking ahead, Monday through Wednesday will feature sunny skies with highs ranging from 64 to 73 degrees and overnight lows in the 40s.

Thursday’s calm morning conditions and light 5 mph south-southwestern breezes will persist through the afternoon before the weather pattern shifts dramatically overnight.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 60. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
