The flooding of the Arroyo del Salado in Granada forces the cutting of nine kilometers of the A-92

The overflow of the Arroyo del Salado, which has forced the A92 to be cut off as it passes through the detour to Santa Fe and in the vicinity of the Granada airport, located in the town of Chauchina, has flooded the streets of “half the town”, according to commented its mayor, Jesús Fernández. Around 9 pm, the City Council issued an order asking the residents of Chauchina, Romilla and Romilla la nueva to remain on the second floor of their houses.

The Arroyo del Salado, explains Fernández, pours its overflowing water onto the highway and ends up in the town, “but it has been 50 years since we had water like this.” The mayor says that there is 50 centimeters of water in the church and mud throughout much of the town. The overflow of the stream, which initially caused a total traffic cut, but limited to km 229.8 around seven in the afternoon, has become at 10 at night a nine-kilometer cut that runs from kilometer 225 to 234 of the A92 in both directions.

Jesús Fernández explained that the firefighters had had to rescue the occupants of four vehicles and a family from a farmhouse on the outskirts of the town. The night is not calm for Chauchina because, as Fernández explains, the water from the stream ends up in the Genil River, where technicians predict a rise of up to four meters of water tonight, which does not facilitate the drainage of the local waters in it.
