Hello and welcome to my review of The Count of Mont-Cristo and frankly, I'm going to be direct, it's just admirable in its beauty and virtue. French cinema is rediscovering its glory days of beautiful adventure cinema with magnificent actors (and I weigh my words) and sumptuous production, but to a point.
I don't really like films lasting 3 hours but for this story, it's a necessary amount of time to appreciate the quality of the film's construction.
The sets, the lighting, the staging, the music, etc… it's just magnificent.
The actors are all handsome and play admirably well (at least for me):
• Pierre Niney is a fabulous actor and to play this vengeful count, he is perfect. Frankly, a generation of actors worthy of French cinema.
• Bastien Bouillon is fabulous as Fernand de Morcef, he has a face and a presence, you have the impression of knowing him, I find that he has the same character trait as an actor that I adore: Sergi Lopez.
• The beautiful and talented Anaïs Demoustier whom I noticed when she started, in Quai d'Orçay, and she had already played with Pierre Niney in the very beautiful Sauver ou perir.
• Anamaria Vartolomei of incredible beauty and who plays Haydée with force.
• Pierfrancesco Favino, the imprisoned mentor, the one who will give hope and courage to the count… an actor with an admirable career, a sure value in acting.
• Laurent Lafitte truly carried away by his role and who frankly, bursts the screen, interpreting this monster Gérard de Villefort.
• Patrick Mille, who makes a fabulous Danglar. An actor who, like good wine, gains momentum in his performances. Truly an actor that I adore.
• Vassili Schneider whom I didn't know, captivating in his romantic character. A promising young actor.
• Julien De Saint Jean fabulous in the role of Andréa, also carried away by his role.
all the other actors are fabulous: Julie de Bona, Adèle Simphal, Stéphane Varupenne, etc..
A very, very beautiful film, a great adventure, an admirable achievement.
